Before I studied to become a counsellor and opened my counselling practice, I worked as a librarian, actor, television presenter, teacher of English as a second language and Business communication tutor.
I am married with adult children and grandchildren. In my spare time I enjoy walking in nature, reading, yoga, and having fun with my grandchildren and the family’s dogs. I also love travelling to new places to experience different cultures.
I am a full member of New Zealand Association of Counsellors – MNZAC which ensures that I practice in accordance to a strict code of ethics. Competency is ensured through continued and regular Professional Development.
I’m also an approved counsellor for ACC sensitive claims (trauma).
You can expect me to provide you with a professional, confidential and compassionate counselling service.
In my daily counselling work I support you to govern your own life. I am used to working with a wide range of cultures and worldviews, which is an aspect of my work that I particularly enjoy.
I value each person’s uniqueness, and use a variety of counselling approaches tailored for your specific needs, such as:
Counselling & therapy
✓ Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
I have trained in Mindfulness, a valuable tool which helps people gain some control over thoughts and feelings, rather than being controlled by them.
Interactive Drawing Therapy
I find Interactive Drawing Therapy particularly useful for some people as it allows one to access their internal world quickly and safely.
Trauma and abuse
My focus in recent years has been on extending my knowledge of how to deal with trauma, particularly that which is caused by abuse, such as:
✓ Domestic violance
I work with ACC sensitive claims.
